The Liberal/NDP alliance keeps talking about higher income Canadians needing to “pay their fair share” of taxes. Not only have they failed since 2017, but carbon is used as an excuse to do the exact opposite with Electric Vehicles (EVs). This is done by transferring money from lower income households to the higher income households.
Let’s look at the numbers:
Gas | Tesla Model 3 (EV) | |
Household income | $126,500 (Mississauga) | $206,313 (CAD equiv.) |
Unit cost | $1.60/L | 10.3¢/kWh |
Average fuel economy | 8.9L/100km | 15kWh/100km |
Taxes paid per 100km | $4.50 | 21¢, $0 for roads |
Federal rebate | $0 | $5000 |
The numbers show higher income households with EVs pay very little in taxes with nothing earmarked towards the roads they use. They get free money to buy those EVs via tax rebates, paid for by lower income households.
The People’s Party of Canada has a solution.
